Frankenstein  (instrumental)
Edgar Winter Group
Peak Chart Position
  • No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1973 for one week
  • Hot 100 chart debut: March 10, 1973
  • RIAA certified Gold record
  • from the album They Only Come Out at Night (1972)
  • the song features a "double" drum solo, with Chuck Ruff on drums and Winter on percussion - the first working title of the song was "The Double Drum Solo"
  • the synthesizer that Winter played on "Frankenstein" was an ARP-2600 with a keyboard that was light enough to strap around his neck
  • the biggest hit single for the Edgar Winter Group
  • written by Edgar Winter - "It was a song I had written ... when I was playing in my brother Johnny's was written for a double drum solo.  Later, when I got into the synthesizer, I needed a song so I adapted the double drum song and we started calling it the synthesizer song.  There was alot of talk about how much editing -  the tape was really cut to pieces  - and that was one of the ways "Frankenstein" applies.
  • Edgar Winters: "Frankenstein was a song that I had written basically ... to showcase my playing alot of instruments."
  • produced by Rick Derringer
